Latest Audio Fun

Latest faves:

Black and Gold - Sam Sparro | Cant. Stop. Listening. (to the entire album)

Ghosts - Ladytron | Always one of my favorite bands but this album isn't as good as the last (I do love the song Versus a lot, though).

Mirror - Supreme Beings of Leisure | I go through phases where I really really love them and then forget about them

Going On- Gnarles Barkley | Another album I can't stop listening to - even though it's been out awhile

My Drive Thru - Santogold, Julian Casablancas, N.E.R.D produced by Pharrell | I like the Casablancas and Santogold parts, not so keen on Pharell's Prince-like vocals. I also kind of like Santogold's other song, L.E.S. Artistes but I'm pretty sure that I'd get tired of her after awhile.

More News From Nowhere - Nick Cave and Night of the Lotus Eaters - Nick Cave | I adore this man but the skeevy Grinderman look is getting old. ick. (and if you click on that Grinderman link, mute your speakers. You will thank me for that piece of advice.)

Hunter - Portishead | One of my all time favorites. I love them.

And last, a limited time download of the new Dandy Warhols song, Mission Control | I don't love the Dandys. I like an occasional song. But for some reason, I love this song.

Sadness

I grabbed Express this morning and was deeply saddened. The news has been awful lately. A lot of death. Unnecessary death. Existentially, I know death happens all the time, everywhere, it's a cycle. Death isn't any more unnecessary than life. Emotionally, it's hard to take in every day. Some days it's easier to distance oneself. Somedays...not so much. I find myself thinking of odd things - thoughts tangential to the sad and awful stories. Usually, it's the photographs that make me wonder. They are truly arresting, showing horror and destruction. We shouldn't shy away from such appaling images because this is reality. But it's hard not to wonder about respect for the victims and their families. Would you want to see a loved one on the front page of a paper, dead and trampled? I don't think so. Is it news? Is it callousness? It seems distasteful. Yet, somehow, also necessary in our insulated society.
